Ambiguous, beautiful, terrifying, and magical, Burma is unlike any other country. It’s all true: men still wrap lungis around their hips, and children are sent to monasteries instead of summer camps. What you see in Burma is important, but perhaps more important is what you don’t see – having been ruled by a military junta for the past 40 years, Burma often appears to be frozen in time, more a museum than a fully functioning country. Yet the people here are surprisingly positive, and live with dignity and hope. Our album illustrates their everyday lives and religious festivals. We will see stunning pagodas and wooden monasteries, “the city of a thousand temples”, Jumping Cat Monastery, and Buddha statues entwined with holy snakes. We will also find out why the Padaung women have such long necks and what the little monks dream about. Join us as we explore one of the most fascinating countries in Asia.
