Endorphins have two clearly differentiated lexical segments: the prefix (endo-) meaning internal and -rphin referring to morphine, a synthetic opioid used to inhibit neural pain signaling. The name is not accidental, in fact endorphins are our internal "opioid drugs", i.e. those that our body produces on its own to produce an analgesic, euphoric, well-being and anti-anxiety effect.
